Why An Office Wife Is The Greatest Threat To Your Marriage
You show up at your man’s workplace during the lunch hour, just to say hi. Or even better so that he can bend you over on his huge mahogany desk for a steamy quickie, while he stuffs his tie into your mouth to keep your uncontrollable screams down.
To your disappointment, you don’t find him at his office; you are told that he is in the cafeteria having lunch. So you decide to hunt him down wherever the hell he is because you intend to complete your mission.
You spot him standing at a secluded corner of the cafeteria. He’s chatting merrily with a lady, and you can’t help notice they are standing awfully close and the slight moment she touches his hand.
Instantly, a sharp feeling of jealousy pierces your heart. You can’t even remember the last time you went on a date with your man and had a great conversation.
Wait, isn’t this the office girl he has been telling you not to worry about? You have been complaining for centuries about how the two keep close contact. The response you always get is, ‘we are talking about work.’
Now that you’ve finally seen the office girl in person, you feel that you have something to worry about. “She’s ain’t even dead drop gorgeous,” you console yourself. The truth however is that you know your man well. She has the qualities he drools over…A fair complexion, blond hair, and curves that show that she doesn’t mess with squats.
To top that up, she seems to have a sense of humour because your man seems to hang on to her every word; occasionally laughing himself silly about something she’s said.
What makes you more insecure is that her style is on fleek. You detest her gorgeous 6-inch heels; you can’t help wonder, ‘how does she walk on those all day?’ What more you hate about her is her long thick legs that look like trophies, and her short turquoise dress that makes her curves pop.
‘Why the hell do they allow a lady with such curves to wear such a short dress at work in the first place?’ your thoughts scream in protest.
Damn, you hate the fact that you have to compare yourself to her. Sadly, in a nutshell, she’s supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (awfully amazing) and you feel that you fall short of that.
This is particularly because, after giving birth to your second child a few months ago, you have been feeling less attractive. Despite having shed off a few pounds of weight, the stubborn belly fat still lingers. Stretch marks have also invaded your body, your breasts are sagging, and your man no longer complements your looks.
You shrug-off those self-loathing thoughts because you are not about to let negative emotions hold you down. So you walk towards the two, with a plastic smile plastered on your face, to mask the bile you are feeling deep down.
The two are engrossed in a deep conversation that they do not notice your presence; at least not yet. You overhear your man telling the office girl, ‘My mom thinks that you could have made a better wife for me, I think so too.’ The office girl smiles and meekly responds, ‘Your mom is probably right.’
You take deep breaths as you try to keep your psycho behaviour in check. It is definitely not because you are worried that your man will lose his job. It is because you are worried that you will go to prison for two counts of cold blood murder and then your two children will have to be raised in foster care…
So you clear your throat, to announce your presence. The duo looks at you like you are a genie that has just appeared.
Suspecting that you might have eavesdropped on their conversation, you man says, ‘Hi dear, I didn’t know you were coming.’ To throw you off the scent, he then goes on, ‘say hi to my colleague…’
Having had/heard enough of his nonsense, you interrupt his words by saying, ‘Save your cheap words for your office slut and your mother,’ and then you walk away. He tries to run after you, but you ignore him, get into your car, and drive off almost running him over.
Just as anyone can guess, your relationship is never the same again.
Why is The Office wife such a threat to your Marriage?
A UK study established that up to 65% of people have a work husband or a ‘work wife’, even without knowing it. Sadly enough, the ‘work spouse’ has ruined many a marriage.
An office wife or rather a work spouse is a work colleague typically of the opposite sex that you are very close to. Though this relationship mimics marriage, it is usually platonic, with no sexual intimacy; until it is not!
The Dangerous Waters
As the two people of the opposite sex form passionate and deep connections in the work environment, with time the line may get blurry. Without realizing it, some find out that they have crossed from a platonic relationship to a full-blown affair.
This can be in the form of emotional cheating or a sexual affair; with both having great damaging effects. Emotional cheating entails, getting emotionally invested in a person who is not your real spouse.
One thing for sure is that we spend more time at work than at home. Psychology dictates that the more time you spend with a person, the closer you get to them. As such, it is easy to fall for a colleague; furthermore, they are pretty, hilarious, kind, considerate, helpful etc.
Moreover, you go through the good and the bad together including covering for each other from the wrath of your boss. As trust and loyalty grow, you tend to rely on the opinions of each other including whether or not ‘your panty-line is showing’. When they are not at work, you are shocked about how much you miss them.
You know each other’s flaws and strengths and accept them the way they are. This aspect makes the work ‘marriages’ exceptional; a recipe that makes getting into their pants a tempting option.
The office affair is normally a slippery slope. It often starts out as an innocent friendship that unexpectedly turns into a sexual or an emotional affair that sometimes puts marriages, friendship, and jobs at risk!
