\u201cDaddy, what is having sex<\/em>?\u201d Your 6-year-old daughter, seated right across the dining table unblinkingly shoots the question. Ooh no, not again! You dread talking about sex with your kids. Jumping off a plane would be less nerve-wracking.<\/p>\n

You almost spit out the hot coffee you have just gulped in panic. So you are forced to swallow it instead. The burns sting right from the tongue, down the throat, to your core.<\/p>\n

You can\u2019t help to catch the embarrassing chuckles and giggles from your teen son seated right next to you.<\/p>\n

You would have loved to give him that condescending \u2018mind your manners<\/em>\u2019 look, but hot coffee burns have rendered your eyes wet. You can feel your jugular throbbing on your neck, as you clench your fists hard as you try to fight the pain.<\/p>\n

The only calming thing at the moment is the long hissing fart you involuntarily release.<\/p>\n

You let out a wounded cough, as you scramble for that napkin because your nose is dripping as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cDaddy, are you okay<\/em>?\u201d Your daughter asks in a concerned tone.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m okay Ivy,\u201d you respond in a hoarse voice. You clear your throat and go on, \u201cI think I\u2019ve just chocked on coffee<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ivy waits a moment or two and then adds, \u201cYou haven\u2019t answered my question yet<\/em>.\u201d You know she\u2019s an intelligent girl, so stalling will not throw her off from the scent.<\/p>\n

Lately, she has been bombarding you with questions. You are always happy to answer them, apart from having that sex talk with her.<\/p>\n

So when the questions get a bit out of hand, you typically say, \u201cGo ask your mommy<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not this time around though; the other day, your wife categorically said that you need to learn how to talk to your kids about sex.<\/p>\n

Come to think of it, the only sex education you\u2019ve ever had in your life, was some scare videos that were shown to you back in high school. The images are still ingrained in your mind.<\/p>\n

They showed rotting male and female genitalia with extreme STI\u2019s that made your stomach turn. You currently suspect the images might have been altered to make them as gruesome as possible to pacify the excited teen hormones.<\/p>\n

To buy time, you ask her, “Where did you hear about sex<\/em>?” \u201cIn school<\/em>,\u201d she responds. \u201cSome kids were talking about it<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sex, is\u2026aah\u2026sex is\u2026 ummm\u2026. you stammer on.<\/p>\n

The moment is saved as your wife comes to the table. \u201cYou guys are bad; you started breakfast without me<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0\u201cAre you okay<\/em>,\u201d She adds, \u201cYou look like you have swallowed a bee<\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is because, Ivy has asked dad, what having sex means<\/em>,\u201d Your son interjects with a million-dollar smile beaming on his face.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd what did he have to say about that<\/em>?\u201d \u201cHe was about to answer<\/em>,\u201d Ivy responds.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour mom knows these things better than I do<\/em>.\u201d You quickly say in a bid to avoid answering the question.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, since your dad says I am the only genius in this home who knows about sex\u2026<\/em>\u201d The sarcasm in her voice is quite evident.\u00a0However, what gets you staring at your coffee mug blankly with your hands tucked between your legs is the look she gives you that says you need to get your sh*t together!<\/p>\n

\u201cSex is something a husband and wife do when they want to have a baby<\/em>.\u201d She confidently says.<\/p>\n

Looking dumbfounded Ivy asks, \u201cSo do how do women who do not have husbands get babies<\/em>?\u201d
\nThat caught her off guard. \u201cWomen who don\u2019t have a husband find a man who is not their husband to have a baby<\/em>.\u201d Your wife adds.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo that means that dad can have a baby with another woman<\/em>?\u201d Ivy asks.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, I mean no<\/em>\u2026\u201d She responds in panic.<\/p>\n

Your wife seems to have run out of words or breath or both. She gives you those puppy eyes to come to her rescue, but you were not about to be drawn into this blood bath!<\/p>\n

\u201cOh! I\u2019m getting late for work<\/em>,\u201d You are quick to excuse yourself. As you walk out, it feels like you\u2019ve just walked over of landmines.<\/p>\n
